The Waystone Code
Short, friendly ground rules for the trail and for every trail run. Leaders can hold their crew to it.
- Above all, be respectful and friendly to everyone, on the trail and in the app.
- No alcohol on the trail. Save the cold ones for after, when the keys are put away.
- Be the spotter you’d want: patient, kind, no yelling.
- One spotter at a time. Too many voices gets someone hurt.
- Right of way: uphill traffic usually goes first, but whoever can pull over or make room most safely should. Never back down something unsafe just because you’re headed downhill; talk it out. Yield to hikers, bikes and horses.
- Stuck on an obstacle? The group sets the rule, usually three tries, then take the bypass or a strap. No shame in it.
- Safe recoveries: rated recovery points only, never a hitch ball, and everyone stands clear of a loaded strap or winch line. Only do what you’re trained to do, and call for help if you’re unsure.
- Get on the radio: share a channel before rolling out, call out obstacles and turns, and the last rig calls “tail’s clear.”
- Nobody gets left behind. Keep the rig behind you in sight.
- Tread Lightly: stay on the trail, no new lines or widening, pack out your trash, and leave it better than you found it.
- Leave gates as you found them, and respect private land.
- Come prepared: water, recovery gear, a spare, and tell someone where you’re going.
- Leave politics and religion at the trailhead.
- We’re all here to explore. Talk lines, rigs and views.
